A Little Brother to the Bear
"A Little Brother to the Bear" tells of Mooweesuk, the raccoon, so called because of the many ways in which he resembles the "big prowler in the black coat." Long also tells of the woodcock, wildcat, toad, and many other creatures, with remarkable accounts of how wild animals treat their wounds and the joy of hunting without a gun—following even large and dangerous animals simply to be near them and learn their ways. The stories are drawn largely from Long's own observations during thirty years of wandering the woods and Canadian wilderness.
