A Day on Skates

To the great excitement of nine-year-old twins Evert and Afke, winter weather has finally come and the canals are frozen hard and smooth. Luckily, they have an understanding teacher who decides to take his class on an all-day skating trip to a nearby town. The children all have their share of adventures—some amusing, some risky—in this delightful story that captures Dutch life in the early twentieth century. Seven beautiful full-color paintings and numerous line drawings enliven the book.
